Associate Degree Requirements
The Associate Degree provides students a unique opportunity to automatically receive an Embedded Academic Associate Degree during the process of pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree. All undergraduate students will be eligible to be awarded the Associate Degree once requirements are met and without additional costs to the students or requiring them to apply for graduation. While students will receive a diploma designating accomplishment, students will not participate in a graduation ceremony for completing the Associate Degree. Students eligible for the Embedded Academic Associate Degree will be notified of their eligibility and completion. Students wishing to opt-out of the Embedded Academic Associate Degree will be required to notify the Registrar’s Office.
Hour Requirements
Completion of a minimum of sixty (60) semester credit hours of coursework. Within the sixty (60) semester credit hours, at least thirty (30) semester credit hours must be taken in-residence at WTAMU.
Associate of Science in Education Requirements (60 Hours)
Education (A.S.) Major Requirements (18 hours)
Complete 18 semester credit hours, outside of the University Core requirements, as directed by the baccalaureate degree from the following:
- MATH 1351, NSCI 2372, or any EDEC, EDEL, EDPD, EDRD, EDSE, EDSP, or EPSY courses
Note: Courses should be applicable to the baccalaureate degree being pursued. Students should review their baccalaureate degree plan and work with their assigned adviser each semester to ensure correct courses are taken.
Once students have completed their core curriculum course work, they will be eligible to apply for admission to the Educator Preparation Program (EPP).
Prospective teacher candidates who wish to apply for admission to the EPP must have a 2.75 GPA.

GPA/Grade Requirements
Achievement of a minimum 2.0 GPA (“C” average) in all WTAMU course work offered towards a degree.
Achievement of a minimum grade of “C” for each course, within the baccalaureate degree being pursued, as detailed below:
- Degree program’s major requirements for the baccalaureate degree,
- Each course in the program’s major subject (including electives), and
- Other designated courses as specified by the program, including transfer courses and University Core Curriculum.
Additional Requirements
Students must be admitted and enrolled at WTAMU in a degree-seeking status. Students who need to be readmitted will be required to meet the degree requirements of the current catalog.
Students must not have been awarded an associate degree elsewhere.
The Embedded Academic Associate Degree will not be awarded in the same semester that the baccalaureate degree is awarded or in any semester following the completion of the baccalaureate degree.
Application for Degree
All Undergraduate students, that are not on an active VISA status, will be eligible to be awarded the Associate Degree once requirements are met and without additional costs to the students or requiring them to apply for graduation. This exclusion does not include students that are in a pending status as a refugee, asylee, parolee, or permanent resident.
While students will receive a diploma designating accomplishment, students will not participate in a graduation ceremony for completing the Associate Degree.
Students eligible for the Embedded Academic Associate Degree will be notified of their eligibility and completion.
Students wishing to opt-out of the Embedded Academic Associate Degree will be required to notify the Registrar’s Office.
