Professional Profile
Dr. Williams joined the College of Education and Social Sciences in 2009. She received her B.S. in education in 1977, and her M.Ed. in reading in 2005 here at West Texas A&M University. She earned her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in language and literacy in 2012 from Texas Tech University. Prior to her arrival at WTAMU, Dr. Williams worked as a first and third grade teacher in Texas public schools, a kindergarten teacher in a private school, and homeschooled a small group of students from eighth grade through twelfth grade. Here at WTAMU, Dr. Williams served as head of the Education Department from 2013 – 2016, and as associate dean of TRCOESS from 2017 – 2022.
Teaching and Related Service
Dr. Williams teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses in reading and early childhood. She serves as the director of the Williams Children’s Literature Collection and Reading Room located in Old Main 214.
Research and Creative Activity
Dr. Williams’s research interests include multicultural children’s literature and integrating English language arts in content subject areas.
