About JREL
The Journal of Rural Educational Leadership is a peer-reviewed, open access online journal publishing original pieces of scholarly research of demonstrable relevance to rural educational issues. JREL was established in 2024 by West Texas A&M University. JREL is located within West Texas A&M University’s Department of Education, and is co-edited by H. H. (Buddy) Hooper Jr. and Janet Hindman with associate editors Mark Garrison and Vince Nix.
We are open to a wide array of submissions, including historical and philosophical explorations, comprehensive research reviews, theoretical discussions, and analyses of policies from diverse disciplinary and methodological viewpoints. Our scope covers an extensive range of topics, such as the characteristics of rural environments, the dynamics between rural schools and their communities, the sociocultural, historical, and economic backdrop of rural education, the role of rural education in community development, aspects of learning and teaching, teacher education for both pre-service and in-service teachers, educational leadership, and educational policies, with an emphasis on higher education matters pertinent to rural contexts. Additionally, we invite book reviews.
