Creative Writing

Anyone interested in improving as a writer is welcome to take one of our creative writing workshops. We also offer a Creative Writing minor, if you fall in love with writing.

We offer a host of opportunities to share your work with peers, including face-to-face and online creative writing groups, the student publication The Legacy, and regular reading opportunities during the year. Our annual Bad Poetry Contest and Haiku Death Match are fun ways to show off your skills.

Check the Upcoming Events page to learn more about our upcoming visits from writers.
We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.

Technical and Professional Writing

Those looking to hone their skills in professional writing might be interested in our Technical Writing classes. Topics change each year, but may include grant writing, editing, and writing for the web.

Our Technical and Professional Writing certificate is a good way to demonstrate these skills to prospective employers.

Under adversity, under oppression, the words begin to fail, the easy words begin to fail. In order to convey things accurately, the human being is almost forced to find the most precise words possible, which is a precondition for literature.
