Professional Profile
Dr. Huaytán-Martínez received his B.A. in Peruvian Latin American Literatures from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Peru), his M.A. in Gender Studies from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Latin American Literatures and Cultures from Purdue University.
Teaching and Related Service
Dr. Huaytán-Martínez teaches all levels of Spanish, from beginning language courses and Spanish for Heritage Speakers to advanced courses in Hispanic cultures and literatures.
Research and Creative Activity
Dr. Huaytán-Martínez’s research focuses on underrepresented people’s voices, seeking to promote a broad understanding of the social, racial, gender and sexual representations in the 20th- and the 21st-century Peruvian and Latin American literature and culture.
His first book, La voz, el viento y la escritura. Representación y memoria en los primeros testimonios de mujeres en el Perú, was published in 2013 with Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola University Press. He is a co-author of the book Nuevos caminos de la crítica. La investigación literaria en San Marcos (2006-2016), was published with the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos University Press in 2021.
He has recently published scholarly articles and reviews in journals such as Revista de Crítica Literaria Latinoamerica, Letras, Castilla. Estudios de Literatura, Hispnófila, Boletín de la Academia Peruana de la Lengua, Desde el Sur and Escritura y Pensamiento.
