Professional Profile

Dr. Tyrer joined the Department of English, Philosophy and Modern Languages in 2002. She received her B.A. and M.A. in English from California State University, Fullerton in 1991 and 1993 respectively and her Ph.D. in American literature from Texas Tech University in 1998.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Tyrer teaches Creative Writing, American literature, and Technical Communication.

Dr. Tyrer has published short stories, poems and essays in a variety of journals in addition to her research work in American modernism. She is the author of  Evelyn Scott's Contribution to American Literary Modernism 1920-1940  and has published two books of poetry,  Creative Hearts   and  Western Spaces, Western Places.

Dr. Tyrer is a member of the American Literature Association, the Modern Literature Association, the Society for the Study of Women Writers, the Southwest Popular and American Culture Association, and serves as the Director of English Graduate Studies.

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Tyrer's research interests include creative writing, recovering women writers in early-through-modern American literature, third-wave feminism in contemporary literature, film studies and technology's impact on teaching and learning.
