Department of Sports and Exercise Sciences
2020 -2021 Sports and Exercise Sciences Department Scholarships Awarded. The department awarded over $14,000 in scholarships to SES majors for the 2020-2021 academic year. Students were evaluated on criteria related to the specifications of each scholarship. The scholarships awarded were the:

- Dr. Mary L. Green Sports and Exercise Sciences Scholarship
- Jack Griswold Scholarship Fund
- Dr. C. Keith Harrison Book Scholarship
- Borden and Jean Price Scholarship
- Allene J. Stovall Scholarship
- Ryan Strong Memorial Scholarship
2021 Outstanding SES Majors Announced. The as outstanding majors for the Sports and Exercise Sciences Department for the 2020-2021 academic year were recognized by the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the Awards and Recognition Reception held April 22, 2021 in Legacy Hall. The following students recognized were:
- Victor Crume - Outstanding Exercise Science Major
- Sadie Snay - Outstanding Applied Sport Major
- Ty Bryant - Outstanding All-Levels Physical Education Major
- Terra Perez - Outstanding Sports and Exercise Sciences Graduate Major
College of Nursing and Health Sciences Service Excellence Award and University Service Award. Dr. Gene Farren, Assistant Professor of Sports and Exercise Sciences, is the 2021 recipient CONHS Service Excellence Award and was the university recipient of the 2021 University Service Award. These awards recognize a faculty member for outstanding contributions to the department, college, university, and profession in the area of professional service.
SES Undergraduates Secure Graduate School Admissions. SES alumni have received admission into various graduate programs. Students have been admitted into the Texas Tech Health Science Center for Physical Therapy, Iowa State University for Physical Therapy, Washington University (St. Louis) for Physical Therapy, Stephen F. Austin State University for Athletic Training, Texas Tech Health Science Center for Athletic Training, Tarleton State University for Athletic Training, Chiropractic Program at Parker University, and Business Administration Program with position as Track Graduate Assistant at Friends University (Wichita, KS).
Dr. Michelle Bartlett recertified as Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC). Dr. Michelle Bartlett, Associate Professor of Sports and Exercise Sciences, successfully completed her Certified Mental Performance Consultant® examination to retain her specialized credentials from the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.
College of Nursing and Health Sciences Research Excellence Award. Dr. Michelle Bartlett, Associate Professor of Sports and Exercise Sciences, is the 2020 recipient of the CONHS Research Excellence Award. This award recognizes a college faculty member for outstanding innovations to student success and learning.
Faculty member becomes Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association President. Dr. Lorna Strong, Assistant Professor of Sports and Exercise Sciences, began her two-year term as SWATA President August 1, 2020.
Students Presented at 34th Annual Conference for the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. Two undergraduate students were selected to present research projects conducted within the department at the annual meeting in Portland, OR.
Student Presented at the 16th Annual Pathways Student Research Symposium. Two SES undergraduate students presented original research, conducted under the mentoring of SES faculty members, at the Pathways Student Research Conference. One of the presentations received a second place in the Health Science submissions.
