Professional Profile
Dr. Haasl joined the Sports and Exercise Science Department within the College of Nursing & Health Sciences in 2005. He has a B.S. in in Health & Physical Education from Oklahoma Panhandle State University and M.S. in Education from Northeastern State University. Dr. Haasl also earned an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Texas Tech University in 2019.
Teaching and Related Service
Dr. Haasl currently teaches undergraduate Contemporary Leadership, Stress Management, and LEAD courses. He has also taught graduate Leadership in Sports and Exercise Sciences.
Haasl also serves as the Faculty Director for Rogers LEAD WT – the premier student leadership program at WTAMU. He also oversees the RELLIS Health Sciences Program as well as serving on numerous college and university committees, including the Academic Leadership Council and the Academic Review Committee.
Research and Creative Activity
His research interests include the professional leadership, student leadership education and development, issues in college athletics, and student retention, as well as prevention of sexual assault on college campuses. Dr. Haasl also served as a keynote speaker for hundreds of events throughout his career; including Leadership Conferences, Professional Conferences, Sports Banquets, Award Ceremonies, FCA Events, and Baccalaureate Services.
Personal Profile
Rick has been an instructor, administrator, and a coach at five different universities during his 35-year career in Higher Education. His wife, Lora, is in the Director of Academic Technology at WT. They have one daughter, Terra, who is a Pediatric Dentist in Dallas. Terra has blessed Rick and Lora with two beautiful granddaughters – Sylvie Clara and Lucia Pearl.
