Awareness and Prevention Programs

Crime Prevention - A 45 minute to 1 hour presentation giving a brief overview of theft and burglary prevention and awareness, Operation Lockout Theft, alcohol awareness, personal safety, and situational awareness. Presented upon request throughout the year.

Alcohol Awareness -  A 45 minute to 1 hour presentation covering how the body processes alcohol, the risks of binge drinking, signs of alcohol poisoning and who to contact, consequences of underage drinking, and drinking and driving. Presentation may be extended when including activities using the Fatal Vision Goggles. Presented upon request throughout the year.

Operation LockOut Theft – A free crime prevention initiative available for students, faculty, and staff to help identify ways to catalog valuables in the event property is stolen.  Cataloged information that is entered into the Operation LockOut Theft system is retained by UPD to facilitate faster reports in theft and burglary cases, and increases the likelihood of recovery.

Domestic/Dating Violence - A 50 minute to 1 hour presentation dealing with the cycle of violence, ways to avoid or get out of a threatening relationship, reporting options, and resources. Presented upon request throughout the year.

Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention - A 50 minute to 1 hour detailed presentation covering statistics of college sexual assault, myths, risk factors, methods for reporting (both under Title IX and to police), SANE information, and other resource information for students. The program presentation can be extended to include short activities geared to heighten sensitivity toward survivors of sexual assault. Presented upon request throughout the year.

*R.A.D. Basic Physical Defense for Women (Rape Aggression Defense)- The Cornerstone of R.A.D. Systems, this course has its foundations in education and awareness. The course includes lecture, discussion and self-defense techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities. Classes range from a minimum of nine to twelve hours plus in length, depending on the Instructor.

Trafficking Awareness - A 45-50 minute program covering the basics of human trafficking, warning signs, recruitment methods, common misconceptions, and resource information.

Hazing - A 30 to 50 minute program that covers the laws and information pertaining to hazing, the dangers of hazing, preventative measures, and reporting options.

UPD Intro - A basic 20-25 minute program, which covers general information about UPD including department organization, training, crime statistics, services offered, and educational programs.

Start by Believing - A public awareness campaign dedicated to ending the cycle of silence regarding sexual assault. The program runs about one hour, but can be modified to fit shorter or longer periods if needed. The focus of the program is to give our community a better understanding of what the campaign is about. WTAMU is a Start by Believing campus and we will continue to work towards getting more of the community engaged with this campaign

CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) - CRASE is a course designed around the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy of responding to an active attack. The course covers a brief history of active shooter events, civilian response options, and medical issues so your school, businesses, and community members can prepare for such an event. The typical course length is approximately two hours but can be modified to fit various time frames.

STOP THE BLEED (STB) - A 60 to 90 minute bleeding control training that includes a presentation along with hands-on practice of applying a direct pressure, wound packing, and tourniquet use to stop bleeding.

Drug Awareness - A 30-45 minute presentation about drugs, current drug trends, and resource information for help and recovery.

Distracted Driving - A 15-20 minute program covering the dangers of distracted driving and distracted walking. An interactive obstacle course can be added to this program for demonstration purposes.

Digital-Internet Safety Course – A 20-30 minute program covering basic Internet safety and scam prevention along with resource information for victims of scams and identity theft.
