Welcome to the West Texas A&M University Police Department Website.  I want to thank you for taking your time to visit our site.  We hope the information provided here will be of use to you.

The WTAMU Police Department is committed to offering quality law enforcement services to anyone on the WTAMU campus.  We do this by providing a well-trained staff of State certified police officers whose primary goal is protect, serve, and educate the population of West Texas A&M University.  We achieve these goals by being involved on the campus of WTAMU in many areas.  UPD realizes that campus policing is very different from county or municipal law enforcement and therefore offers many services to the campus community not done by traditional law enforcement.

The University Police Department strives to enhance the quality of life on campus to make it a better place to live, learn, and experience all that West Texas A&M has to offer.  The Police Department cannot do this alone; it requires the commitment of every student, staff, and faculty member.  I think you will see by comparing WTAMU to other universities that we boast one of the lowest crime rates of any four-year residential university.  We do this with a small, but dedicated staff.  The main difference is YOU!  The help that the community provides is what makes our jobs possible and successful.  When you, the student, parent, alumni, or visitor, take a vested interest in your community, you can have a noticeable effect on crime.

After you take a look through the website, please feel free to contact any of the employees listed and offer suggestions, concerns, or comments.  If you need to speak to me personally about something, you can reach my office by dialing 806-651-2300.  Remember, UPD is here to serve you and is available at anytime.  I hope your visit to our website was enjoyable and informative.

Sincerely,

Shawn Burns, LCC
