WT Alumni Scholars (WTAS)

West Texas A&M University is introducing an exciting program—the WT Alumni Scholars (WTAS). Placing our trust in WT alumni, like yourself, is the impetus of the new program, allowing alumni recommendations up to five potential WT students from any high school district or community college to be admitted to WT through the WTAS program.

We recognize that the traditional admissions process can overlook bright students with the potential to succeed. We acknowledge that those who know these students and are willing to vouch for their drive to succeed is a reliable and trustworthy indicator of potential, which we value. It is the WT way. We are excited to partner with WT alumni through the WTAS program to identify and serve students of the great state of Texas and beyond.

Students

The WTAS program is in alignment with the University’s long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World Maxim Three—Build Undergraduate Academic Excellence, and the University’s Alumni Association’s mission, to foster pride in the University, build and enrich relationships, and create opportunities for lifelong engagement among the University, alumni, and community. As WT Alumni, we want to empower you to identify scholars for the WTAS program, those who may benefit from the recognition of someone they know and trust, who need encouragement down the path of higher education, or who possess potential that may have not yet been recognized in a traditional admissions process. To that end, in essence, you become admissions officers for five potential WT students annually. Your choices can change the trajectory of people’s lives, impacting entire families and the generations to follow.

While we will make exceptions within reasonable bounds, it is expected those you direct to WT would meet the following general requirements:

  1. Meet Texas Uniform Admission Policy
  2. Top 25% — no minimum ACT/SAT score
    26-50% — 18 ACT or 960 SAT
    51-75% — 21 ACT or 1060 SAT
    76-100% — 23 ACT or 1130 SAT
  3. 2.0 GPA

The following additional benefits are worth noting:

  • Application Fee Waiver
  • Express Admission to WT
  • Scholarship Consideration

All you need to do to recommend students for admission to WT is complete the WT Alumni Scholars Recommendation Form. We will contact each person you recommend as a potential WT student and let them know of your confidence in them and our confidence in you. Once we have received your list of potential WT students, we will walk each person individually through the remaining processes.

For the fall of 2021 class, we would encourage you to submit your list as soon as possible and no later than May 1, 2021.

If you have any questions about the process, please contact the Executive Director of Admissions, Jeffrey Baylor, at 806-651-5288 or 806-651-2020, jbaylor@wtamu.edu.

Thank you for your forward-looking service to the region and the people that call it home.
