Professional Profile
Ms. Shipp joined the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Department of Nursing 2013 as faculty in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. She received her BSN from West Texas State University in 1974 and a MSN from the University of Texas, Austin in 1979. She returned to the WTAMU Department of Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner Program to obtain a Family Nurse Practitioner certificate in 1994.
Teaching and Related Service
Ms. Shipp teaches Advanced Assessment for Nurse Practitioners, Primary Health Care Across the Lifespan I, II, III, Issues: Nurse Practitioner Role Development, Capstone Clinical Practicum for Family Nurse Practitioners, and Research Synthesis.
Ms. Shipp was appointed as the APRN representative by Governor Perry and reappointed by Governor Abbott to the Texas Board of Nursing term to expire 2023. She was appointed President of the Texas Board of Nursing in 2013. She is Chair for the President’s Group of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
Ms. Shipp is a member of the South Plains, Texas and American Associations of Nurse Practitioners, American and Texas Nurse Associations, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty and National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
Research and Creative Activity
Ms. Shipp participates and is active in the state and national policies, rules and regulation of the practice of nursing, the education of nursing and the protection of the public. Ms. Shipp provides care to WTAMU faculty, staff and family members in the WTAMU Nursing Health and Wellness Clinic in the Bivins Nursing Learning Center. Ms. Shipp provides Family Planning services for South Plains Public Health District 2 days per month.
