Professional Profile
Tariq joined the WTAMU Department of Music in 1984. She received a B.S. in music education from Ball State University in 1979, an M. M. in percussion performance from Ohio State University in 1984, and a D.M.A. in percussion performance from the University of Arizona in 1994.
Teaching and Related Service
Tariq is director of percussion studies at WTAMU, which includes applied percussion, percussion ensemble, percussion literature and percussion pedagogy. She has been an active member of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) at both the state and national level. She has served as performer, clinician and panel discussant at numerous Texas Music Educator Association and PAS International Conventions.
Research and Creative Activity
Tariq is currently the principal percussionist of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra and drummer with Polk Street Jazz. She is an active performer in such diverse areas as marimba, multiple percussion, jazz drumming, world drumming and timpani. Tariq is an educational artist with Vic Firth and the Avedis Zildjian Cymbal Company.
