Professional Profile
Jessica Schury is the Instructor of Flute at West Texas A&M University. She received a B.M. in Music Performance with a certificate in music education from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and a M.M. in Music Performance from Stony Brook University. Currently, she is a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas pursuing a degree in Music Performance with a related field in music theory.
Ms. Schury is an accomplished performer comfortable in solo, orchestral, and chamber explorations. She has been a finalist and prizewinner in multiple competitions across the country including the Mid-South Young Artist Competition, the San Diego Flute Guild Young Artist Competition, and the National Flute Association (NFA) Baroque Flute Masterclass competition. In 2023, she competed as a quarter finalist in the NFA Young Artist Competition. Teaching and Related Service
At WT, Jessica Schury teaches applied flute lessons, conducts the Flute Choir, and leads weekly studio classes. She strives to help her students create a solid foundation while also empowering them to discover their interests and express their musical ideas.
Off campus, Ms. Schury is a part of the flute faculty and the lead administrator of Carol Wincenc’s Creating Resonance Retreat, held every summer in upstate New York. Ms. Schury teaches private lesson students locally in Amarillo, Texas and is the co-founder of the online education platform, Flute Foundations. She happily represents the Wm. S. Haynes Flute Company as a Haynes Young Artist.
Research and Creative Activity
Ms. Schury’s research interests include flute pedagogy, chamber music, and performance practice. Her pedagogical focus includes developing comprehensive and innovative approaches to introduce critical concepts to students. As an active chamber musician, Ms. Schury frequently performs on flute, piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute in a variety of ensembles including a flute quartet, Vox Venti, a flute and oboe duo, Duo Sonation, and an eccentric flute, guitar, and percussion combo, The Pan-Tones. Ms. Schury’s interest in performance practice spans both historical and contemporary realms, featuring a deep interest in baroque flute and a dedication to modern repertoire.

Jessica Schury is from a small town in Pennsylvania. In her free time, she enjoys reading and gardening. She loves hiking and traveling with her partner, Robert, and their dog, Tank.
