Research and Creative Activity
One of Dr. Boehme’s primary research interests is drum set pedagogy. For his doctoral treatise, through the culmination of personal research, previous research, and data collection from current classical percussion professors, he developed and proposed an accessible and adaptable drum set curriculum to be utilized by classical percussion professors, with a practical focus on drum set abilities to increase the general skills and employability of classical percussion students.
Another research interest for Dr. Boehme is musical groups who use two or more drum set players. This interest came about through playing in A Brother’s Revival, a touring Allman Brothers tribute band. For his doctoral lecture recital, The History of Double Drum Set, he transcribed and performed double drum set excerpts from bands over a wide range of genres, exploring the connections and differences of the various applications of double drum set. He continues to collect data and information about these bands and their drummers. In the future, he plans to release a public database of information about groups with two or more drum set players, including playlists of double drum set recordings and a timeline of double drum set bands.
