Sara-Louise Newcomer received her DVM from the University of Florida in 2003. She was in small animal general practice for a few years before joining the faculty at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in Primary Care. While at Auburn, she completed her masters in Adult Education and moved away from the clinical setting while she continued with classroom teaching responsibilities and mentoring veterinary students.
Teaching and Related Service
In 2023, Dr. Newcomer was named the Long Professor in Companion Animal Studies and the Director of the Companion Animal Program at WT. She has developed the curriculum for the program, in which students may choose to earn either a certificate or a minor in Companion Animal Studies. She has guided students in the development of the Companion Animal Club, which is in its second year as an extracurricular opportunity.
Dr. Newcomer is excited for the opportunity to continue mentoring and walking alongside students in their undergraduate education as they consider opportunities in the Companion Animal Industry, including veterinary medicine as well as many other career opportunities.
Research and Creative Activity
Sara-Louise and her husband, BJ, a dairy veterinarian, enjoy living in the Panhandle of Texas with their dogs, Willow Kate and Calla Jo, and their cat, LC. Willow Kate, a registered therapy dog, joins Dr. Newcomer in the classroom when she is teaching and can often be found in the hallways of the Natural Sciences Building, bringing happiness and smiles everywhere she goes.
