Non-Degree Seeking Graduate Students

Students who currently hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher) and are wanting to take coursework not related to a specific degree will need to apply through the Graduate School as a non-degree seeking student. 

Admission Requirements (Non-Degree Student Type)

  • WTAMU Graduate School application
    • In the University Interest section of the application, select “Graduate” as the Application type and then “Non-Degree Seeking” as the Student type. Continue the application as instructed.*
  • $55 non-refundable application fee
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
  • Personal statement**
    • The personal statement is a one to two paragraph statement that details your intentions as a non-degree seeking student, what level of coursework (graduate or undergraduate) that you want to take, and any educational or career goals associated with those courses.

Deadlines

There are no formal deadlines for admission into West Texas A&M University as a non-degree seeking student. However, because of limited course availability/capacity, applying prior to the start of your desired start term is highly encouraged.

Certificate Coursework

Students who are interested in taking non-degree courses specifically to qualify for certain certifications (diagnostician, principal, superintendent, post-FNP, LPC, teaching etc.) will need to select the appropriate program for the Student Type. There are additional admission requirements for students pursuing coursework towards certification, as well as differing deadlines. Please reference our Certificates page for more information.

Students pursuing the Alternative Teacher Certification/Ready, Set, Teach! (PACE) program will need to apply through the Education on Demand Office. Education on Demand courses are less expensive, 100% online, and self-paced. Graduate-Level Business Courses (Non-Degree)

Students who are interested in taking graduate-level Business Courses as a non-degree seeking student will need to apply as a Graduate Business Courses (Non-Degree) student. In order to do this, you will need to select “Graduate Business Courses (Non-Degree)” as the Student type on your Graduate School application. There are additional admission requirements for students pursuing this route. Please contact the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business directly with questions regarding admissions steps. Education on Demand

If your goal is to complete prerequisite coursework for another program, please check if the course(s) you need is available through our Education on Demand Office prior to submitting your non-degree seeking application. Education on Demand courses are less expensive, 100% online, and self-paced. Scholarships and Financial Aid
Please be aware that non-degree seeking students are not eligible for Graduate School scholarships nor federal financial aid.
