Professional Profile
Dr. Baum joined the WTAMU faculty in 2013. She received her B.A. in English in 2003 and her M.A. in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in communication in 2010, both from West Texas A&M University. She earned her Ph.D. in 2021 from Texas Tech University.
Teaching and Related Service
Dr. Baum is the director of the Attebury Honors Program at WT where she works with scholars from across campus.
Within our department, she teaches Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, and Nonverbal Communication.
Baum also taught several years at the secondary level and hopes to provide a bridge for students as they transition from high school to university level academics. She has also served on the Executive Committee for the Texas Speech Communication Association and is a member of the National Communication Association, the Southern States Communication Association, and the Texas Storytelling Association.
Research and Creative Activity
Dr. Baum has performed storytelling and guided several student-led productions. Research interests include media literacy, pedagogy/andragogy, communication in the classroom, and first-generation student success and preparation.
