2.30 | Misuse of Transportation
2.30.A | Reckless Driving: Driving in a manner that recklessly endangers the health or safety of oneself or others.
2.30.B | In accordance with WT Rule 24.01.01.W0.03, use of skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, bicycles, or other similar modes of transportation in university buildings is prohibited. In addition, use of such transportation on university premises in such a manner as to constitute a safety hazard or cause damage to university, or personal property, is prohibited. Exceptions to this include motorized vehicles that are approved ADA accommodations. 2.30.C | The use, possession, charging, or storage of self-balancing boards, or similar personal devices, within university buildings, including the residence halls, is prohibited. Designated charging stations have been added to campus; contact Residential Living for specific location sites.
2.30.D | Bicycles and scooters need to be secured to university provided bike racks, or designated university charging stations. Property may not be secured to trees or buildings.
2.30.E | Operation of Micro-mobility Devices: Those who utilize electric scooters must operate them according to campus rules. The following rules apply to the use of electronic scooters on campus:
- Proper safety equipment is encouraged to ensure personal safety while operating a micro-mobility device.
- Such devices are not allowed inside any university-owned buildings.
- Users are responsible for following all traffic laws. This includes, but is not limited to, stopping at stop signs and stoplights, yielding, and not surpassing the speed limit.
- Scooters should be operated in areas where bicycle traffic is allowed.
- Scooters must be operated in a safe manner and may be subject to Student Conduct sanctions if operated in a manner that is determined to be reckless.
- Scooters are meant for single riders only.
- Scooters should be stored and secured to university provided bike racks.
- Be mindful not to impede pedestrian and ADA access. Do not park on sidewalks, ADA ramps, curb cuts, or staircases.
- Access to electric scooters may be limited by the University at any time.
2.30.F | If you see a scooter, bike, hoverboard, or similar item inside a building, please ask the individual to take it outside, and notify the building staff immediately.
2.30.G | Reckless riders should be reported to the Office of Community Standards at studentconduct@wtamu.edu.
2.30.H | Drones: All drone flights on the WTAMU campus must be approved by the University Police Department (UPD), which works in conjunction with the Environmental Health and Safety and Risk Management offices; unless the flight has an approved flight plan in a designated location prior to the flight taking place. FAA guidelines for all drone flights can be found at www.knowbeforeyoufly.org.
2.30.I | Parking Barricades: The University Police Department and Physical Plant often have to block off spaces for special events, construction projects, and routine maintenance. Students caught tampering with cones, barricades, or signs could be subject to disciplinary action.
