Preparing for your interview is important of course, but the work you do after your interview is just as important. Following up with your interviewers shows your prospective employer that you are truly interested and invested in the opportunity they have to offer. Following up can be done by sending an email or handwritten thank you note. Take cues from your interviewers to see which format they would appreciate more. A good rule of thumb is that if your interview was virtual, then an email would likely be welcomed. A hand written note on a professional card however, always has a more personal touch.
Make sure to not just write the standard “Thank you for your time I hope to hear from you soon.” Add in personal touches, or mention something discussed during the interview. This can also be a time for you to further reiterate your skills and qualifications for the job or provide other requested documents such as transcripts, references, copies of licensures, etc.
As a means of inspiration, check out this article by The Muse, which has several different thank you note examples and templates.
