Professional Profile
David joined the School of Music in 2024. He received a Bachelor of Music with all-level teaching certification and a Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from West Texas A&M University. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Texas Tech University. David served as a band director in Canyon, Texas and taught applied trumpet at Amarillo College. David serves as the second trumpet in the Amarillo Symphony.
Teaching and Related Service
At WT, Mr. Lough teaches applied trumpet, music appreciation, aural skills, and is an assistant director of The Sound of West Texas Buffalo Marching Band. He performs in the WT Faculty Brass Quintet which tours around the globe. David regularly performs with and has been featured in Chamber Music Amarillo concerts as well as the Amarillo Opera. In addition to performing, he is active as a clinician, giving instructional masterclasses, adjudicating solo and ensemble festivals.
Research and Creative Activity
David’s research interests include the study of fundamental methodology and pedagogy of trumpet playing, effective practice techniques, and developing educational material for band directors and other trumpet pedagogues.
Personal Sketch
David lives in Canyon, Texas with his wife, their two sons and their dog. In addition to his life as a trumpeter, David enjoys spending time in the areas of 3D printing and design, metal machining, and miniature painting.
