Professional Profile

Dr. Amy Carlson brings over a decade of experience in public education, having taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels for 10 years. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Reading from West Texas A&M University (WTAMU), followed by a Master’s degree in School Administration from WTAMU. Dr. Carlson completed her Ph.D. at Texas Tech University.

Teaching and Related Service

She began her higher education career as an adjunct instructor at WTAMU and now serves as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Carlson teaches undergraduate courses focused on Social Studies, Data-Informed Instruction, and related topics in teacher preparation. She also serves as the faculty advisor for the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE), mentoring and guiding the next generation of teachers.

Research and Creative Activity 

Dr. Carlson’s research interests include integrating literacy into content area instruction and exploring strategies to increase the number of certified teachers in Texas. Her work focuses on strengthening the teacher pipeline and equipping educators with the tools they need to thrive in today’s classrooms.
