West Texas A&M University's rock climbing tower is 40 feet tall and is fashioned after the Light House rock structure in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The tower has paths for amateurs and experts, so everyone with an adventurous spirit can give it a try. There are 6 climbing routes - 4 ropes and 2 auto belays and a large bouldering area. To assist you in your journey we have new harnesses, new climbing shoes, new ropes and MORE!
EVERYTHING IS FREE! All you have to do is show up looking for a fun climb, a challenge, or just to meet new climbing friends.

The Mile High Challenge Event Information - Spring 2025
To assist you, we will offer the "Mile High Challenge". You can register (free) and keep your log of climbs during the semester. When you reach 5,280' (132 climbs) you get a great looking T-shirt and certificate of achievement. You have all semester to reach your goal beginning the 1st day of class and ending at finals. Other ways to learn and enjoy the tower are belay clinics and one on one tutoring from our excellent Climbing Tower staff.

Participation Agreement
All physical activities offered by Recreational Sports and the VHAC carry various degrees of risk or injury. Participants assume sole responsibility for any and all such risk or injury that may result due to voluntary participation. It is each individual's
responsibility to be knowledgeable of his/her own physical condition to participate in any of the activities.
Climbing Tower Policies
- All climbing participants must check in at the customer service desk and/or scan their Buffalo Gold card or VHAC membership card.
- During the week, all Climbing participants must be at least 16 years of age or older and must complete the TAMU System liability release waiver before they are allowed to climb. Participants 16 and 17 years old will need a valid waiver signed by in order to climb Monday - Friday.
- On weekends, we have designated "Family Hours" to accommodate our Climbing participants under 16 years of age. Anyone under 16 years of age may climb on Saturday and Sunday during the hours of 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. A parent or guardian of the underage participant must be present at all times and must complete the TAMU System liability release form on their behalf before they are allowed to climb.
- In the event of a WTAMU sponsored camp, campers must show identification before being allowed to climb, as well as the above procedures.
- Climbing shoes or soft soled closed-toed shoes are the only shoes permitted while climbing.
- Climbers on the tower and bouldering wall must be five feet from one another while climbing.
- A belay approval is requred before participants are permitted to use belay skills.

- Please follow the advice of the student employees giving directions for your safety and the safety of others. Climbing Tower staff reserve the right to remove or ban any participant from the area for any violation of our safety practices and behavioral expectations at any time.
