Getting Started with an IRB Proposal Submission

Below is a list of suggestions on how to get started, resources needed, and an overview of the submission process.

  1. Is an IRB Review Required?
    Use the IRB determination flowchart to establish the need for an IRB review.

  2. All research involving human subjects at West Texas A&M University must be reviewed by the IRB.
    (This includes research that may be classified as exempt).
  3. A quick read of the Belmont Report and a scan of the federal regulations, the WTAMU IRB rules and procedures, and the IRB Manual will provide a foundation for your overall research endeavors.
  4. The WTAMU IRB requires that researchers conducting human subjects studies complete IRB training appropriate to the research being proposed.
  5. Your specific research project will dictate the information needed. Follow the step-by-step instructions provided for completing and submitting your IRB proposal.
  6. During this process you will need to assemble the forms, write your proposal narrative, and attach your supporting documentation.
  7. The final step in the process is to submit your human subjects research proposal to AR-EHS.
