State Authorization

State Authorization

State Authorization is the Federal Regulation that requires higher education institutions to obtain authorization to offer distance education courses and programs to students located in a state in which the institution offering the course is not physically located.

National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA)

West Texas A&M University was approved as a participant in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) in 2015, and is and is administered by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB.). "The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement is a voluntary agreement among its member states and U.S. territories that establishes comparable national standards for interstate offering of postsecondary distance-education courses and programs. It is intended to make it easier for students to take online courses offered by postsecondary institutions based in another state." -NC-SARA

For more information about the SARA initiative and progress of state and institutional membership, please visit www.nc-sara.org/sara-states-institutions

If you are a student living in a state that is not a member of NC-SARA, WTAMU may have a direct agreement with your state. For more information, please call Melissa White, Assistant Vice President and Accreditation Liaison, at (806) 651-2045 or email mwhite@wtamu.edu.
