WTAMU’s Graduate Business Program Earns Top Ten National Ranking

CANYON, Texas—The West Texas A&M University graduate business program has been recognized as one of the top programs by The Financial Engineer, according to the latest rankings released on Thursday, Oct. 23.

WTAMU’s Master of Science in Finance and Economics was ranked at No. 10 in The Financial Engineer’s 2015 Financial Economics Rankings of economics and finance graduate programs. Overall scores for the rankings are based on several factors, including program’s acceptance rate, incoming students’ undergraduate GPA, employment after graduation and starting salary. Other top 10 programs include Columbia University, Brandeis University and Saint Louis University.

"It is rewarding to be recognized among our peers for the excellence of our program, our faculty and our student outcomes," Dr. Neil Terry, dean of the College of Business, said. "This recognition is one of many recent external confirmations of the University’s rising prominence."

Current enrollment in the Master of Science in Finance and Economics is more than 40 students. The flexible program allows students to complete all degree requirements on campus, online or a combination of the campus and online environments. The program is geared to professionals working in applied finance and business fields but also offers the academic depth for placement in leading doctorate programs, which includes the University of Oklahoma, University of Mississippi, University of Oregon and Texas A&M University.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program also was recognized with distinction by The Financial Engineer as the only regional program in the southwest to earn a top 150 ranking. The West Texas A&M University MBA program ranking is No. 140 overall and is the highest rated regional university in the Southwest.

"With more than 1,000 MBA programs in the country, recognition as one of the only regional universities in the top 150 and in the top two percent overall is a great honor." Dr. LaVelle Mills, associate dean of Graduate Business Programs, said.

Earlier this year, the online MBA program at WTAMU was ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the No. 27 program overall and the second highest rated regional university in the West.
