University to Host Special International Business Seminar

CANYON, Texas—The Department of Management, Marketing and General Business at West Texas A&M University will host a special international business seminar on "Dealing with the Post-Financial Crisis Period—Part III" from 1-2:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9 in the Jack B. Kelley Student Center, Legends Club.

Speakers for the seminar are Joe Street, president of Street Toyota in Amarillo, and Matthew Harkins, associate vice president for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney in Amarillo. Dr. Syed Tariq Anwar, professor of marketing and international business, is the organizer and moderator of the seminar. The two speakers will talk to the audience about the 2008 post-financial crisis period and its changing business environment and impacts. The first two seminars on this topic were hosted at WTAMU in 2008 and early 2009.

"Street and Harkins will speak to the audience on the post-financial crisis period and its changing business environment that continues to impact our local and national markets," Anwar said.  "International and U.S. banks and other institutions in Europe, North America and Asia have lost billions of dollars in the 2008 financial crisis. These issues and activities have been extensively covered by the media and continue to be today’s hot topics."

The seminar is free and open to WTAMU students, faculty and the business community. According to Anwar, the 2008 financial crisis and its global and region- and country-specific issues are not without controversy and will continue to impact businesses in the coming years.
