CANYON, Texas—West Texas A&M University streamed its first virtual commencement ceremony on May 9, and the final tally for the Class of 2020 is 1,198 graduates.
Overall, the University awarded 856 baccalaureate degrees and 342 master’s degrees, following procedural confirmation from the University’s seven deans. View graduate names listed by hometown here.
The oldest graduate was 63 years of age and the youngest was 19. Forty-eight percent of those graduates are the first in their family to earn a college degree; 92 graduated with honors (3.5-4.0 GPA), and 46 are veterans.
Most graduates are from Texas, but others come from 38 other states. In addition to the U.S., graduates came from 21 other countries including Boliva, Canada, China, Germany, India, Nigeria, New Zealand, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Vietnam and more.
Graduates include those on the Dean's List (overall grade point average of 3.50 to 3.99) and on the President’s List (a 4.0). The three levels of honor recognition are Summa Cum Laude (3.90-4.00), Magna Cum Laude (3.75-3.89) and Cum Laude (3.50-3.74).
