CANYON, Texas—Eight students at West Texas A&M University received scholarship to support their continued learning throughout their summer internships.
The President’s Earn and Learn Scholarship Program launched this year for students pursuing experiences in research or internships that are unpaid or underpaid.
Scholarships will be awarded every semester following this summer. The first recipients and their employers are listed below.

Family Counseling Services in Lubbock, Texas - Moriah Fitzgerald, senior music therapy major
The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital in Bethany, Okla. - Jessica Williams, senior wildlife biology and broadcast journalism majors
Zugunruhe Films in Amarillo, Texas - Jorge Patricio Rojas Puente, junior mechanical engineering major
Procopet Petroleum Projects and Constructions in Quito, Ecuador - Caitlyn Dotson, junior wildlife biology major
Center for Animal Research and Education in Bridgeport, Texas - Katie McCallie, junior wildlife biology major
High Country Raptors in Williams, Ariz. - Darby Sparkman, senior mass communication major
Quanah Tribune-Chief in Quanah, Texas - Eve Duck, junior interdisciplinary studies major
Wildorado Independent School District in Wildorado, Texas
Scholarships were awarded competitively based on financial need and alignment with WT’s generational plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World, in areas of community life, education in rural settings, agriculture and healthcare.
The selection committee included Dr. Li Chen, Dr. Monica Hart, Instructor Dawn Joran and Director Laura Seals. Scholarship amounts varied but were limited to $3,000.
