CANYON, Texas—The collegiate chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) at West Texas A&M University will sponsor a special seminar titled, "Internet of Things (IoT): Business Applications, Trends and Marketing Issues" from 12:20-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in the Classroom Center, Room 335 on campus.
Speakers for the seminar are Cyrus Driver, president and chief executive officer of NTS Communications, and James D. Webb, chief information officer of WTAMU. Dr. Syed Tariq Anwar, professor of marketing and international business, will serve as moderator.
Internet technologies connect high-tech applications like mobile devices and has brought over $11 trillion to the business industry. IoT-related areas include virtual communities, consumer empowerment and sharing as well as privacy and security and other value adding activities that aim to better connect markets, industries and firms.
"Within today’s fast growing connected markets, industries and firms, the IoT is a major force to be reckoned with and will continue to deal with high-tech industries and fast growing service sectors," Anwar said. "IoT is one of the biggest market opportunities since smartphones and tablets have swept the world."
This seminar is another impactful session planned and sponsored by WTAMU’s AMA chapter. The group began in 2014 and has since actively engaged students, faculty, staff and the business community with informative events.
This event is free and open to WTAMU students, faculty and staff members as well as the general public. For more information, contact Anwar, co-chapter adviser, at 806-651-2491 or Turkan Kilic, AMA chapter adviser and associate professor of marketing, at 806-651-2506.
