CANYON, Texas—West Texas A&M University’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team won the right to advance to national competition by winning a regional championship in competition at Rogers, Ark., April 13.
"The WTAMU SIFE team was founded 16 years ago and has won the right to advance to national competition in each of those 16 years," Jean Walker, SIFE faculty adviser, said.
SIFE is a partnership between business and higher education which prepares the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders to impact the lives of others through the positive power of business. The SIFE motto is: "A head for business. A heart for the world."
The 125 members of the WTAMU SIFE team have completed 25 educational projects focused on the areas of market economics, success skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, environmental sustainability and business ethics in addition to campus and community service projects. The results of those projects are judged by business executives as the team showcases their projects through a multimedia presentation.
The team is a student organization of the College of Business and was accompanied to Arkansas by Dr. Neil Terry, dean of the College of Business, and Walker.
The 2010 SIFE USA National Exposition will take place in Minneapolis on May 11-13.
Forty-eight SIFE team members participated in the regional competition and associated Career Fair. Those participating are listed by hometown, classification, and major.
