CANYON, Texas—The Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team at West Texas A&M University won a regional championship March 27 at SIFE USA Regional Competition in Rogers, Ark., marking its 15th consecutive title. The team now advances to national competition at the SIFE USA National Exposition May 10-13 in Philadelphia, Penn.
WTAMU’s SIFE was recognized as a top 20 finalist nationally in the Environmental Sustainability Individual Topic Competition for their Bolivian Bottle House Project. The SIFE team also won a second top 20 finalist recognition in the Program Sustainability Competition.
Students in Free Enterprise is a global network which brings together business and higher education into a partnership to prepare entrepreneurs and business leaders worldwide. SIFE teams in 41 countries, including more than 600 at American colleges, compete for the right to earn a place at the 2009 SIFE World Cup next fall in Berlin.
In competition, panels of business leaders judge the outreach projects selected by each team to best address business and economic issues in their communities. Teams teach entrepreneurship, market economics, financial literacy, success skills, environmental sustainability and business ethics; they also perform business consulting services.
Corporate sponsors of SIFE recruited students at a career fair held in conjunction with regional competition.
Students participating in the regional competition are listed by hometown, classification and major.
