As a state supported university, we are required to follow State of Texas collection procedures for unpaid accounts.
West Texas A&M University expects students to pay their Student Account Balances and Emergency Loan Balances when due. Failure to pay on time does have consequences for students and may include late charges, registration holds, or referral of their debt to an outside collection agency.
The university works with students who are past-due by offering a 12-Installment Repayment Plan for the past due term balance or emergency loan balance.
As a last resort, accounts and loans are referred to outside collection agencies. Students can avoid that action by making a payment every month until the balance is paid in full. Students must remain in current standing on the Repayment Plan or the account will be referred to a collection agency with no further notice.
Once your account is referred to an outside agency, students will be contacted by a representative of that agency. Payments are then made through that agency-not to the university. Students may also be liable for collection fees up to 30% of the principal balance placed in addition to the university account or loan balance. We are also required to place a state hold on your account with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
At this time, the university has contracts with the following collection agencies:
Credit Bureau of High Plains
Repayment Plan for Student Accounts (Not Emergency Loans)
To request a repayment plan, please log into your Buff Advisor and set it up through Student Finance. Repayment Plans do require a $50 enrollment fee that is added to the overall amount, as well as scheduling automatic payments.
We offer a 12-month plan that takes your balance and splits it into 12 payments. Repayment plans do not remove administrative restrictions on accounts, only prevent the account from being turned over to collections. You will not be able to register for future terms until balance is paid in full.
