About the Health Sciences Degree
West Texas A&M’s Health Sciences degree is designed for students who want to work in the healthcare industry. Your academic preparation will provide you with the knowledge and ability to pursue a variety of different professional opportunities. In any hospital setting, there are hundreds of employees who are not doctors, nurses, etc. There are positions in human resources, administration, customer service, marketing and promotions, as well as many others. In fact, the healthcare industry is rapidly growing and is in need of trained professionals. A bachelors in Health Sciences from WT is an excellent choice to prepare you for a career in this vibrant industry.
WT’s Health Sciences degree will:
- Provide you with both a broad understanding of the healthcare industry as well as a focused plan of study in which you can develop a deeper understanding of certain areas of the healthcare field.
- Prepare you with core courses focusing on a broad understanding of the healthcare industry.
- Prepare you with required electives to pursue a specialized concentration of study in a variety of areas specific to each individual student and their desired career path.
The Health Sciences degree is also an excellent choice for current professionals with an Associate’s degree in the healthcare field who wish to pursue a Bachelor's degree in order to advance into management or administrative positions at their current place of employment.

- Strong science background (anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry)
- Understanding of proper structure and formatting in work-related documents.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
- Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
- Ability to verbally communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
