Campers participate in two elective activities. Choose from the following:
Camp Activities
All Campers participate in a morning stretching/relaxation course, which helps to energize them and get ready for the day!
Resident Campers participate in fun evening activities which may include outdoor recreation, art field trips, camp talent show, game night, or a trip to the WTAMU Activity center to swim or unwind. Students will also be given the opportunity to practice their instrument at the music building if requested.
High School Camper Elective Classes
All-State Etude Preparation
Get a jump on the competition through intensive work on the Texas All-State Orchestra Etudes. You'll be coached on strategies for efficient practice to better master technical challenges and how best to handle competitive auditions. If you select this activity, you are required to prepare the Optional Advanced audition excerpt.

Composing and Arranging
An overview of tonal composition and the application of instrumentation. This elective will integrate modern technology based resources in composition as well as reinforce traditional compositional processes.

Fiddling and Improv
Improvisation, an important skill for all musicians, is the ability to create, or replicate music that is heard or imagined. It is also beneficial in working on one's listening skills and interactive ensemble playing. Fiddling offers the opportunity to explore the folk music tradition of the US and other countries. Fiddle tunes can be learned quickly and can be an exciting change of pace in your musical journey.
Music and Technology
Introduction to computer assisted electronic music including the use of music notation programs as well as the use of technology in composition utilizing such programs as Finale, Sibelius, Garageband and Logic. An introduction to sequencing and MIDI conventions is also included in this course.
Instrumental Techniques
Get to know the ins and outs of your instrument as we introduce vibrato, explore tricks for better tone and tuning, and learn techniques for better rhythm and reading.
Music and Technology
Introduction to computer assisted electronic music including the use of music notation programs as well as the use of technology in composition utilizing such programs as Sibelius and Garageband.
Music Theory and Composition This course will cover a wide range of topics relating to tonal harmony as utilized in traditional Western music beginning with an introduction to music theory and composition for the middle school camper.
Solo Repertoire
Come explore solo pieces written for your instrument. Listen to and play along with music at your level and beyond.
Survey of Orchestral Music/Conducting
Listen to and discuss major orchestral works. Learn the basics of how to conduct and follow in an orchestra!
