History of the Communication Hall of Fame

The first Hall of Fame Committee was established in January 2012 under the leadership of Dr. Trudy Hanson, head of the Department of Communication. The committee was chaired by Dr. Leigh Browning and included Kim Bruce, Dr. Butler Cain, Mona Gregory, Dr. Emily Kinsky, Dr. Enyonam Osei-Hwere, and Lori Westermann.

Within a month, we had supporters agree to serve as the planning and selection committee, initially referred to as Academy Fellows. They were chosen based on their expertise, dedication to higher education, and their love of the field of communication. Those initial selection committee members were Craig Gualtiere, Keith Brown, Leslie Richardson, Mary Coyne, Brent McClure, Jackie Kingston, Lisa Schmidt, and Krissy Mailman.

The first event was hosted on Sept. 20, 2013. Claire Shipman served as keynote speaker that evening, and we recognized Matt Adams, Andy Justus, Russell Lowery-Hart, and Guy P. Yates as our first inductees into the WT Communication Hall of Fame.
