Professional Profile
Dr. Moore received both a B.S. (2011) and M.S. (2014) in Mathematics from West Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. (2022) in Mathematics with a specialization in Applied Mathematics from Texas Tech University. He worked as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Sandia National Laboratories for 1 year prior to joining the College of Engineering in the fall of 2023.
Teaching and Related Service
Dr. Moore teaches undergraduate courses in Calculus and Numerical Analysis and graduate courses in Numerical Analysis and Machine Learning. He has supervised graduate thesis students and undergraduate capstone/senior investigations projects in the area of applied mathematics.
He is currently a member of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).
Research and Creative Activity
Dr. Moore's research interests include machine learning and iterative methods for sparse linear systems. In particular, he focuses on graph neural networks and their connection to linear algebra and preconditioners for linear systems. Prominent publications include an educational article in SIAM Review teaching graph neural networks through the lens of linear algebra and an article in ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software introducing a layer-parallel neural network training algorithm based on algebraic multigrid ideas.
