The diagram below represents the influence following Confucian principles should have on society.  For an outline of those principles, refer to the handout on Major Confucian Ideas.  Confucius believed that social harmony would result from self-cultivation, proper observence of the rights, sincere relationships with family members and others in the community, and acceptance of one's station and occupation.  Thus, chung and shu would result in the fulfillment of the Silver Rule.  Observance of the Silver Rule would then lead to benevolence in the individual (the gene of the DNA model represented here), familial harmony, social justice, and world peace.
