The Office of Community Standards
Our Philosophy
The Office of Community Standards has three main priorities; student safety, educational opportunities, and community development. The WTAMU Student Handbook outlines the rights and responsibilities of WT students, which align with Texas A&M University System rules and regulations, along with state, federal, and local laws. Student's who violate policies contained in the Student Handbook are held accountable through the Student Conduct Process. We recognize that students will make mistakes and, at times, decisions that do not align with personal values and/or university expectations. The Office of Community Standards is charged with assisting students in developing skills required for self-efficacy and maintaining a positive mindset while navigating temporary setbacks. Through the Student Conduct process, University officials assist students in ethical, personal, and intellectual development. The Student Conduct process offers support to students struggling with behavioral issues, and makes appropriate referrals to other resources as necessary. The Office of Community Standards frequently publishes educational materials that cover topics such as alcohol and drug use, conflict resolution, hazing education, amnesty policies, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. These materials are published through our social media each semester. The Office of Community Standards hosts programming to assist community development. Topics vary depending on the time of year and campus climate, but usually cover alcohol and other drug education, bystander intervention strategies, and ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
