Professional Profile
Dr. Clark earned his Ph.D. in East Asian history from the University of Pittsburgh, M.A. in East Asian Languages and Cultures from the University of Kansas and his B.A. in history from Baylor University. He has also studied in Japan at International Christian University and Keio University.
Teaching and Related Service
Dr. Clark has taught at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Kansas. He has also taught in Japan and Europe. Since 2001, Dr. Clark has taught courses at WTAMU related to East Asia--in particular, Japan and China. He also occasionally teaches Japanese language. Dr. Clark is very active in the discipline of Asian Studies. He has served as the president of the Southwest Conference on Asian Studies and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Association for Asian Studies.
Research and Creative Activity
Dr. Clark's first book is entitled The Kokugo Revolution: Education, Identity and Language Policy in Imperial Japan. It was published in 2009 by the Institute for East Asian Studies, University of California Press. He conducted research for this book as a Fulbright-Hayes Faculty Research Abroad fellow. His next manuscript is entitled Meiji Sensations: Scandal, Celebrity and National Culture in Imperial Japan. He has also published multiple articles and is the editor of the Journal of the Southwest Conference on Asian Studies.
