Professional Profile

Dr. Kuhlman received a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1983 and a Bachelor of Art in 1984, both from West Texas State University.  With an emphasis in history, he took a Master of Art from West Texas State University in 1986 and a Doctor of Philosophy from Texas Tech University in 1994.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Kuhlman teaches classes in United States history with specialty classes in the Old South, Civil War and Reconstruction, Civil Rights Movements and the United States Since 1945.  He has also taught senior and graduate seminars on subjects such as the 1960s, Reconstruction and segregation.

Research and Creative Activity 

He has written a number of articles appearing in scholarly journals over topics such as different aspects of the African American Civil Rights Movement in Texas, the growth of educational institutions in the state and land promoters in the Panhandle of Texas.  He has written book chapters dealing with the African American experience in Texas.  He is currently researching and writing the history of West Texas A&M for the University's centennial.  Kuhlman also had an historical novel published in 2006.
