Professional Profile

Dr. Yarbrough joined the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business at West Texas A&M University in 2016. She received a B.S. in Education from Texas Christian University in 1997, an M.S. in Educational Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University in 1998, a Ph.D. in Educational Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University in 2000, and an M.B.A. with a concentration in management from Texas A&M University in 2002. She was named the Virginia Engler Professor of Business in 2018. 

In addition, Dr. Yarbrough has completed numerous academic certifications and graduate certificates, most notably Certificates in Leadership and Nonprofit Management from Duke University. She also holds professional designations in areas from Human Resources to Financial Planning. Finally, Dr. Yarbrough has held industry positions of Human Resource Generalist, Operations Manager and Business Analyst at Raytheon Corporation and Coastal Federal Financial Group.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Yarbrough has over 20 years of experience in higher education. Some highlights include time in Palo Alto California at Stanford University creating an online faculty teaching handbook and time in London at King’s College studying International Human Resource practices. At WTAMU, Dr. Yarbrough's current teaching areas include Principles of Management, Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, Healthcare Management, Cultural Intelligence, and the MBA Portfolio. Dr. Yarbrough has extensive experience in mentoring students through research projects, student organizations, independent studies and advanced internships. She is currently the academic co-advisor for the Society for Human Resource Management and Golden Key. She was the recipient of the Paul & Virginia Engler College of Business Professional Service Award in 2020. 

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Yarbrough has published several books. She is the author of Introduction to Human Relations and co-author of Becoming a Self-Directed Learner: Experience, Logic, Application and Innovation. She has numerous journal publications, publishing most recently in the Journal of Management and Marketing Research and the Journal of Business Cases and Application. Additionally, she has been an invited speaker twice at the international conference, Teaching with Technology. Dr. Yarbrough’s research focus areas include training and development, recruitment, motivation, unions and cultural awareness.

Personal Sketch

Dr. Yarbrough grew up in New Mexico and she met her husband, Jason, in graduate school at Texas A&M University. She enjoys spending time with her husband, three children and two dogs.
