Professional Profile

Dr. Ramos Salazar joined the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business in 2015. She earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees from California State University at Long Beach and a Ph.D. at Arizona State University in communications with a concentration in quantitative methods. She was named the Abdullat Professor of Business in 2018. 

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Ramos Salazar teaches courses in Statistics for Business and Economics, Business Communication for Health Care Managers, Healthcare Communication for the Business Environment, Contemporary Issues in Management Communication, and Business Communication.

In 2018, she won the Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education of the Decision Sciences Institute’s Best Research Paper Award along with her colleague Mr. Stephen Hayward for the paper entitled, "An examination of college students’ problem-solving, self-efficacy, academic self-efficacy, motivation, test performance, and expected grade in introductory economics courses."

Dr. Ramos Salazar also serves as the faculty advisor of ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals for America) at WTAMU student chapter and was the recipient of the Paul & Virginia Engler College of Business Professional Service Award in 2019. 

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Ramos Salazar’s research interest areas include health communication, compassion, conflict management and cyberbullying, interpersonal communication, business communication pedagogy, and statistical education.  Her publications have appeared in multiple journals, which include Health Communication, Business and Professional Communication Quarterly, Journal of Language and Social Psychology, Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Aggression and Violent Behavior, TSM Business Review, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, Communication Teacher, Communication Studies, and Communication Quarterly.  

She has served on the editorial board of Communication Research Reports, Communication Reports, and Western Journal of Communication. She also performs reviews of research manuscripts for the Journal of Health Communication, Journal of Applied Communication Research, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, Mindfulness, Business and Professional Communication Quarterly, Mindfulness, Family Communication, Sage Open, Communication Quarterly, and Western Journal of Communication. Additionally, Dr. Ramos Salazar was elected to serve as a Board of Directors Officer for the Southwestern Association of Business Communication until 2023.

Dr. Ramos Salazar was the recipient of the Paul & Virginia Engler College of Business Research Excellence Award in 2022. She is also a regular contributor to our ProfSpeak Blog

Personal Sketch

Dr. Ramos Salazar grew up in Los Angeles, California. She currently lives in Canyon with the companionship of her two retired parents. She enjoys listening to Latin rock, pop rock, hits from the 80s, coffee jazz, and Baroquean music. She also enjoys reading, hiking, theme parks, concerts, and watching comedy/animation films.
