Professional Profile:

Elizabeth Ryann Thompson, MSN, RN, CNE, CNE-cl, CCRN, CEN, joined the West Texas A&M University Laura & Joe Street School of Nursing in 2023. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Tarleton State University in 2018 and her Master of Science in Nursing Education (MSN) from Aspen University in 2024. She earned certification as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE)in 2024 and, in 2025, became a Certified Academic Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE-cl) through the National League for Nursing. She also holds certifications as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) and Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), reflecting her commitment to excellence in both critical care and emergency nursing. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Executive Leadership at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, with an anticipated graduation in December 2026. Mrs. Thompson has received several honors recognizing her leadership, scholarship, and commitment to advancing the nursing profession. She is the recipient of the 2025 Dr. Valerie Kiper Doctoral Leadership Scholarship and the 2026 Panhandle Great 25 Nurses Doctoral Scholarship. She was also selected as one of only four nurses in the United States for the 2026 Emergency Nursing Developing Voices Research (ENDVR) Fellowship through the Emergency Nurses Association, a prestigious national fellowship designed to develop future nurse researchers. Her doctoral quality improvement project was accepted for presentation at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Graduate Nursing Student Academy (GNSA) Conference in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Thompson continues to practice clinically as a PRN registered nurse in both the ED and SICU, allowing her to integrate current evidence-based practice into the classroom while maintaining expertise in high-acuity patient care.

 

Teaching and Related Service:

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she serves as an academic advisor, Chair of the Nursing Study Abroad Program, and is actively involved in multiple departmental committees. She also serves on the WTAMU American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Provider Unit. Beyond the university, Mrs. Thompson is committed to advancing nursing through professional leadership and service. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Delta Delta Chapter) and the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) West Texas Panhandle Chapter. She was selected to serve as an ENA General Assembly Alternate Delegate and continues to mentor new graduate nurses through Sigma Theta Tau's mentorship program. She serves as Emergency Department Nurse Governance Co-Chair and continues to contribute to initiatives that improve clinical practice, staff engagement, and patient outcomes.

 

Research and Creative Activity:

Mrs. Thompson's Doctor of Nursing Practice project focuses on improving communication during Emergency Department-to-Intensive Care Unit nurse handoffs through implementation of the IMIST-AMBO structured handoff tool. She remains passionate about translating evidence into practice, mentoring future nurse leaders, and advancing nursing education and emergency care through research, scholarship, and service.
