Professional Profile

Dr. Keshav Shrestha is an experimental condensed matter physicist and Associate Professor of Physics at West Texas A&M University. His research focuses on quantum materials, particularly kagome metals and superconductors, magnetism, and topological materials. His group uses high magnetic fields, pressure, magnetotransport, quantum oscillations, and first-principles calculations to investigate the electronic and magnetic properties of these materials.

Dr. Shrestha joined West Texas A&M University in 2020 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2026. He has collaborated with national laboratories and research institutions including Los Alamos National Laboratory, Idaho National Laboratory, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, and the Texas Center for Superconductivity. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications since 2020, with more than 800 citations.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Shrestha teaches undergraduate and upper-level physics courses, including Research in Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Mechanics, Calculus-based Physics, and General Physics. He is actively involved in undergraduate and graduate research mentoring and has supervised students working on quantum materials, Fermi-surface studies, magnetism, and electronic structure.

He serves as the faculty director of the Chemistry and Physics Help Lab and faculty co-advisor for the Society of Physics Students at West Texas A&M University. He also teaches advanced physics courses through the Texas Physics Consortium (TPC), providing students with access to upper-level physics coursework.

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Shrestha's research focuses on experimental studies of quantum materials, particularly kagome metals and superconductors, magnetic and altermagnetic materials, and topological quantum materials. His group investigates electronic structure, Fermi-surface topology, superconductivity, magnetism, and quantum oscillations using high magnetic fields, pressure, magnetotransport, and first-principles calculations to complement experimental studies.

Current research interests include kagome materials, quantum oscillations and Fermi-surface mapping, pressure-tuned electronic properties, superconductivity, magnetism and altermagnetism, and first-principles electronic-structure calculations.

His research involves collaborations with national laboratories and research institutions, including Los Alamos National Laboratory, Idaho National Laboratory, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, and the Texas Center for Superconductivity.
