Course Goals: This course will present and explain the inner and outer histories of the English language.  Inner history comprises the actual phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic changes concomitant with the evolution of English; outer history comprises the cultural and technological events that contributed to inner history.

Course Objectives:

Course Method: The methods of this course include readings, lectures, handouts, class discussions, group work, student presentations, videos, quizzes, impromptu writing and examinations. Of course, the most effective method on your part will be to attend class, on time, everyday, and to exhibit an understanding of the course content.
