Scholarships Transfer Students

Automatic Scholarships for Transfer Students

The following scholarships are awarded once you have: 1) been accepted for admission, 2) met the necessary criteria for the scholarship with official documentation, and applied for financial aid through submission of the FAFSA and cleared verification while funds are still available. You will receive the largest scholarship for which you are qualified.

*Resident Transfer Assistance Scholarship - $2,000/yr for up to 2 years

  • 3.0 GPA + 30 transfer credit hours
  • Texas resident
  • Financial need as demonstrated by the FAFSA application
  • FAFSA application submitted 60 days prior to the first day of class
  • Enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 hours per term, Fall and Spring)

*Non-resident Transfer Assistance Scholarship - $1,000/yr for up to 2 years

  • 3.0 GPA + 30 transfer credit hours
  • Non-Texas resident or International Student (This scholarship qualifies international students for a substantial tuition waiver, contact the International Student Office at 806-651-2073 for details.  International students do not have to complete the FAFSA to qualify for this scholarship).
  • Enrolled full-time (12 or more hours per term, Fall and Spring)

*President's Transfer Scholarship - $3,000/yr for up to 2 years

  • 3.5 GPA + 60 transfer credit hours
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Enrolled full-time (12 or more hours per term, Fall and Spring)

*Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship* - $500 one time award in addition to any other eligible scholarships

  • To verify membership, please submit Phi Theta Kappa certificate or membership card to scholarships@wtamu.edu.  Transcript from prior community college with PTK membership identified can also be used.  Please contact the scholarship office if your PTK membership is documented on your transcript.

Award Process: Once required admission documentation (official transcripts, etc.) and FAFSA application (if required) are received, the scholarship with the highest monetary value will be applied to your account automatically. The Phi Theta Kappa scholarship will be applied to your account when membership has been documented.

Additional scholarships? You are encouraged to apply directly to the Scholarship Office for additional WT Foundation scholarships. These additional awards are not automatic and require an application before the listed deadline.

Renewal for second year: You must earn 30 credit hours and maintain a 3.3 GPA the first academic year at WT to be eligible for renewal of this scholarship. If you maintain this standard, your scholarship will be automatically renewed for a second year. Scholarships are divided equally between Fall and Spring terms.

Who is a transfer student? Students who enroll for the first time at WT with more than 12 post-high school credit hours will be considered transfer students for the purposes of these scholarships.
