Statement

To protect the perimeter of the University network, IT personnel will deploy various security controls to proactively monitor for denial of service attempts so that timely action can be taken to maintain network and system availability.

Applicability

This Control applies to all West Texas A&M network information resources. The intended audience for this Control includes all information resource owners, custodians, and users of information resources.

Implementation

WTAMU has appropriate network, access control lists, and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) controls in place to decrease risk of denial of service attacks (internal and external) on critical information systems. Controls to mitigate against denial of service may include, but are not limited the use of tools and configuration settings at the network layer to combat such attempts, and/or proactively monitoring for denial of service attempts so timely steps can be taken to address the risk.
