Statement

WTAMU ensures proper control and protection of computer media to safeguard the security of the University’s data.  This includes data present on local system hard-drives, servers or external media such as tapes, CDs or disk drives. In order to properly protect the data on media proper labeling of the media while in storage should be applied.

Applicability

This Control applies to all West Texas A&M network information resources. The intended audience for this Control includes all information resource owners, custodians, and users of information resources.

Implementation

• Information system users should mark system media indicating the distribution limitations, handling caveats, and applicable security markings of the information.
• Removable media and information resources output containing sensitive information is exempt from marking while the media remains within department maintaining the sensitive information. In these cases proper doucmenation of the contents of the media and information about the media should be maintained seperately.
