Statement

West Texas A&M University will conduct backups of user-level information contained in the information system, conduct backups of system-level information contained in the information system, conduct backups of information system documentation including security-related documentation, and protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of backup information at storage locations.

Applicability

This Control applies to all West Texas A&M network information resources. The intended audience for this Control includes all information resource owners, custodians, and users of information resources.

Implementation

Appropriate backups of systems will be performed based on risk management decisions.

Annual reviews of backup procedures and policies for each system will be performed by system administrators and personnel responsible for backup procedures. These reviews will include reviews of backup configurations to ensure backup frequency and retention aligns with recovery time and recovery point objectives.

Backup data shall be properly protected via encryption to protect the confidentiality and integrity of the data.

Backups shall be securely transmitted to the Alternate Storage Site defined in CP-6.
